As the title says, this is a rant on AI, or using an euphemism, it is a personal opinion. Thus, there is not many links nor fact-checking. Indeed, I may have explain it in the future to the AI that filters me for a position, job, credit, passport, etc.
In the recent years, many LLM-based tools (branded as AI tools) have started to be in the reach of non-tech-savvy users. The increase in the access to this tools goes beyond of users looking for them, in many cases these AI tools are not even an option but they are forced into the users (e.g. Microsoft with Copilot), as there is a monetary incentive, it shall look impressive in the quarterly reports to state that "AI users have increased in LARGE %".
Do not get me wrong, these tools are very useful in certain applications. However, it should be mentioned that for other applications, rather than tools they can and have been used as summarize things that were already succinct, to simulate productivity, fake understanding, expand information (usually with slop), and it one of the most nefarious cases to replace thinking (though, is it possible to replace something that was not there in the first place?).
AI tools are often seen like an escape from laborious tasks. Need to write a report? Just let the AI do it. It will be vanilla and bland, not tailored for your organization, and that is expected, the tool does not have enough context. And even if more context is provided, is it enough? does it consider previous reports? have info about the your aim with report? Maybe, and still it does not have the full context. Give it more context? Well, now we are talking on sharing sensitivity data. I do think that AI tool cannot fully replace of a person intention and knowledge.
These tools, are an amazing complement, I found them very useful as proof-reader and as editor. But I take the output as suggestions and never as something that must be done. At the end, on writing I want to still use strange syntax, or orthography "errors", because I can and I want.
To me, full delegation of tasks to AI (for now) seems idiotic. I know it can write text and code faster than me, it may even can get insights from the task the realize. But once the task is done, thinking that understanding is transferable from the AI tool to me by arts of magic is not only naive, again, it's idiotic.
We still play chess, write, draw, code, create, live, etc...
